Janet Ogle-Mater
Freelance Writer/Biographer

About Janet

A native of Michigan, Janet earned a B.S. in Liberal Arts from Aquinas College and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. She worked as a social worker for eight years in Grand Rapids, before earning her master’s and beginning a 12-year career as a psychotherapist. Throughout those years, Janet derived a large part of her satisfaction from the extensive personal, family, and psychosocial reports completed for clients. A closet history buff, she embarked on writing historical features for local organizations to honor, not only the past, but her need to write. She also found time to complete marketing copy for her agencies and other small businesses. In 2008, Janet launched her freelance writing career, and now works full-time as a writer/biographer.

She is past president, and current Board member, of the Chelsea Area Historical Society. She is also a member of the Historical Society of Michigan and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, as well as a member of the Association of Personal Historians. She is the co-leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout troop and frequently volunteers at community events and area schools. She lives with her family in Chelsea, Michigan.
